Hussain Shefaar
As Headteacher, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Islamia Primary School (VA). We are the first Islamic faith based voluntary aided school in the UK, known around the world due to the school’s celebrity founder Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) who established the school 36 years ago.
At Islamia Primary School, we focus on providing children with a holistic education, ensuring that they achieve the highest academic standards in all national curriculum subjects. Our broad, balanced and connected curriculum provides pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills within a range of subjects. They also use 21st century skills including active listening, problem solving, presenting, team work, creativity and leadership to enhance their learning experience.
Our religious and value based curriculum help our pupils to develop a sound understanding of the Islamic faith and other faiths, free from distortion, misconceptions or extremism. They establish a strong spiritual connection with Allah (God), a love of the Qur’an, proficiency in the Arabic language and learn that the best of actions are those that bring benefit to others. We have a strong emphasis on values and work hard in nurturing children to have exemplary behaviour, to be focused, disciplined, and well prepared for secondary school and life within modern Britain.
Our impressive range of extra-curricular activities and enrichment programmes allow pupils to take part in a broad range of activities every day. Our school ensures that no one is disadvantaged or discriminated against. We ensure that girls and boys are provided with equal opportunities and have access to all part of our curriculum, including those pupils with special educational needs.
Islamia Primary School is a special place where teachers, parents and pupils work in partnership to create a loving and caring school where children are happy, confident and thrive within a secure environment of high expectations and educational excellence.
