Y5 - Battery and motor-powered steam locomotive
In Year 5, children have started the process of building a battery and motor-powered steam locomotive. They began by conducting extensive research on the history of trains, gaining insights into the technological advances that have formed the locomotive business. (History of Trains).
Furthermore, children created mood boards depicting various components of a miniature steam locomotive. These mood boards provide as visual guides, allowing students to evaluate and comprehend the complexities of locomotive design. (Mood Boards 1, 2 and 3)
Children have also given extensive instructions for constructing the train's chassis. (Constructing Trains 1 and 2). During this process, they learned about structural integrity, material selection, and the value of precise engineering. Throughout the project, pupils work in groups, using problem-solving abilities and creativity to find solutions to potential difficulties they have encountered.
