Year 1 Explore Number Bonds with Numicon This week, Year 1 have been busy exploring number bonds using Numicon. The colourful, hands-on maths resource has helped the children to visualise the different ways numbers can be combined to make 10. Through fun and interactive activities, pupils have been developing their understanding of addition and building strong foundations for future learning. Well done, Year 1 – fantastic number work!

Celebrating Black History Month Across the School Pupils across all year groups have been engaging in meaningful learning this October as part of Black History Month. Through specially chosen Core English texts, children have explored key figures, events, and themes that celebrate Black heritage, resilience, and achievements. From learning about the brave actions of Rosa Parks to discovering the inspiring environmental work of Wangari Maathai (founder of the Green Belt Movement, which has planted over 40 million trees in Kenya) pupils have been developing a deeper understanding of the impact individuals can have on the world. In year 3, pupils are exploring The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad, a powerful story about identity, pride, and being visibly Muslim. The book has sparked thoughtful conversations about diversity, self-expression, and identity. In Year 2, pupils have been reading the text 'Coming to England' which is about the life of Floella Benjamin and her journey to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, deepening their understanding of migration, identity, and belonging. After half term, our celebration of Black History Month will continue with a series of exciting workshops, by an external provider, under the theme Africa Reborn - offering pupils an interactive opportunity to further explore African culture, history, and innovation.

Ponies Visit as Part of Seerah Learning As part of our ongoing Seerah learning, pupils were thrilled to welcome two very special visitors to school this week - a pair of friendly ponies! Since our children are still too young to ride horses, we invited ponies instead, giving them the chance to experience these gentle animals up close. The sheer joy and excitement on the children’s faces was wonderful to see. Many enjoyed stroking the ponies, learning about how they are cared for, and connecting this special visit to knowledge about how people travelled in the past. It was a memorable day full of smiles, and one that helped bring their Seerah learning to life in such a unique way.

Year 2 Investigate Climates Around the World In Geography this week, Year 2 have been learning all about different climates across the globe. From tropical heat to icy polar regions, the children have explored what it’s like to live in both hot and cold climates. They’ve been thinking carefully about the weather, environment, and lifestyle in each region - and deciding which climate they would prefer to live in and why.

Year 2 Art – From Maps to 3D Masterpieces Last half term, our Year 2 pupils explored the theme of “My Journey to School”, creating maps of their daily walks. This term, they’ve taken their ideas one step further, quite literally, by transforming their 2D maps to 3D relief maps. Using a range of materials, the children have brought their routes to life, adding layers, textures, landmarks, and creative details that reflect their own journeys.

The education secretary has warned parents of the dangers of poor attendance at the start of the school year, as children return for the new term this week.

Our pupils had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Guinness World Record event hosted by Jamie Oliver, where over 7000 participants joined in a culinary celebration. Our students had a hands-on experience learning to make handmade pasta, from cracking eggs and kneading dough to using a variety of techniques to shape their creations. In addition to making pasta, the pupils also honed their kitchen skills, engaging in cutting, slicing, and dicing garlic and tomatoes, and picking fresh basil leaves. The event culminated in a taster session that captured their enthusiasm as they enjoyed the fruits of their labour. Many pupils were so inspired by the experience that they are now motivated to try the recipe at home with their families!

This week, our Reception pupils have been busy learning all about the concepts of ‘more than’ and ‘less than’ through fun and interactive activities. Using concrete resources, the children compared different quantities and began to understand how numbers relate to each other.
